MotorCityMegs @MotorCityMegs8 18/71
MotorCityMegs @MotorCityMegs8 19/71
Questions:
Moore: With regard to evictions, what is DPD's role?
Bliss: To preserve peace.
Moore: At Palmer park, there were tasers used.
Bliss: Yes. correct. They had a weapon.
Moore: Complaints? Do repeated calls show up as new cases in stats?
Bliss: Unclear. Will clarify.
MotorCityMegs @MotorCityMegs8 20/71
Hernandez: How many complaints against officers are under investigation?
Internal numbers vs. external numbers
Bliss: Will try to get an answer back by end of session.
MotorCityMegs @MotorCityMegs8 21/71
Bernard: Tell us by next meeting about overtime stats. More overtime, how is it being recorded? Monitored? Costs.
Bliss: Yes, I will have that for you.
MotorCityMegs @MotorCityMegs8 22/71
Discussion is ensuing now about block parties. Bliss talking about fatal shootings at block parties. Residents are not safe because they're being blocked from their own streets. The parties being shut down are sometimes NOT the ones who are bad actors.
MotorCityMegs @MotorCityMegs8 23/71
Board member sharing that community members have been reaching out and they're very very upset about having their events shut down due to having too many people.
MotorCityMegs @MotorCityMegs8 24/71
Pressley: What is an estimated time frame for the process of block party approvals? to ensure that parties are not shut down.
Bliss: It could take a couple weeks to plan for street closures and permitting.
Pressley: I'm asking because "pre-existing" events might be compromised
MotorCityMegs @MotorCityMegs8 25/71
DPD doesn't want to shut down longstanding events. Recommends meeting with local precincts/NPOs to ensure it's on calendar and in compliance.
MotorCityMegs @MotorCityMegs8 26/71
Tamara Liberty Smith District 1, Vice Chairperson is the one holding space for discussion and initially raised the questions about block party ordinances. Says people running events for 30 years have been told they have to cancel. 😠
MotorCityMegs @MotorCityMegs8 27/71
Request to review the ordinance that was brought up at City Council.
MotorCityMegs @MotorCityMegs8 28/71
Bernard: What are the fees required to secure permitting for events? Agrees with Smith that there should NOT be shut downs of private residences hosting events.
MotorCityMegs @MotorCityMegs8 29/71
They're on BOPC Officer Report.
MotorCityMegs @MotorCityMegs8 30/71
They're now doing 5 interviews? BOPC Officers’ Report – Chairperson Darryl Woods
A. Interview BOPC Secretary
MotorCityMegs @MotorCityMegs8 31/71
OK, here's context: Hernandez is saying that there was public request that BOPC secretary interviews for all 5 candidates be hosted during this meeting!

MotorCityMegs @MotorCityMegs8 35/71
same candidate: got funding for transportation, loves working in the areas that need the most help. Looked to accommodate as many kids as possible.
Question: Civilian oversight of law enforcement? What would you need to do to be the best?
Answer: Learn info to empower others
MotorCityMegs @MotorCityMegs8 36/71

Answer: Yes. He will be the one who makes sure everyone is on the same page, transparent.
MotorCityMegs @MotorCityMegs8 37/71
Bernard: Why are you interested?
Answer: He wants to engage others, wants to be able to share expertise and give back and show others how he can do the job. He will make others feel valued.
MotorCityMegs @MotorCityMegs8 38/71
He wants to make it safe for each employee at DPD to feel safe coming home at night.
OK, the first applicant was named Mr. Franks. ⭐️
MotorCityMegs @MotorCityMegs8 39/71
New candidate: Female (last name: Page?)
How does your experience prepare you for the role?
A: Started out in financial/budgetary/legal oversight.
MotorCityMegs @MotorCityMegs8 40/71
Question 3: Organizing, planning, prioritizing work. How do you manage conflicting priorities? Describe time under pressure.
A: Uses her calendar.
(My opinion: she lacked specific examples here)
MotorCityMegs @MotorCityMegs8 41/71
Question 4: Dealing with disruptive, angry people.
A: Take the conversation offline.
MotorCityMegs @MotorCityMegs8 42/71
Candidate saying she will work with data, ask a lot of questions.

MotorCityMegs @MotorCityMegs8 46/71
Why interested? Family in all 7 districts. Believes that working with the BOPC can make it possible to ensure a better, safe community. Passionate about criminal justice! Had done advocacy work over the years!
(Aside: GREAT ANSWER!)
MotorCityMegs @MotorCityMegs8 47/71
OMG now they are talking about all of the questions, what they are, whether it's fair for the candidates to know the questions in advanced.
NEXT
Male Candidate #4: Mr. Zacharias (spelling?)
MotorCityMegs @MotorCityMegs8 48/71
LOL. Their 2 remaining candidates are not there.
In the interim, they are back to public comments.
MotorCityMegs @MotorCityMegs8 49/71
Female commenter: No one should be excused from doing their jobs. Chief White and Warfield need to get their houses in order.
MotorCityMegs @MotorCityMegs8 50/71
Taura Brown: A murder happened during an eviction. () Why wasn't bailiff asked to step out?
freep.com/story/news/loc…
MotorCityMegs @MotorCityMegs8 51/71
Why wasn't bailiff excused after police arrived?
Why wasn't someone there to deescalate the situation? A bailiff shot him, not a police officer.
MotorCityMegs @MotorCityMegs8 52/71
Male Public Commenter: He's taking issue with the BPOC Secretary interview questions. You ask for conflicting demands and not about ethical and moral standards.
MotorCityMegs @MotorCityMegs8 53/71
Female commenter: Having a PTSD attack because her cousin's cold case is in this office, husband's case in office, son's case in their office. Stars are not "permitted" to commit crimes and yet they're excused.
MotorCityMegs @MotorCityMegs8 54/71
Former Commissioner Davis as a public commenter: Says that the response time is very concerning here:
freep.com/story/news/loc…
MotorCityMegs @MotorCityMegs8 55/71
They're going into a 10 minute recess. See y'all in 10.
MotorCityMegs @MotorCityMegs8 56/71
It's kinda funny because they didn't shut off the recording so I hear them talking about random things like writing bank checks, what they're having for dinner, etc. Should reconvene momentarily.
MotorCityMegs @MotorCityMegs8 57/71
OK! They're BACK!
MotorCityMegs @MotorCityMegs8 58/71
The only one missing is Burton.
MotorCityMegs @MotorCityMegs8 59/71
Oh no! They're not going to have the 2 remaining candidates here in the session due to HR's scheduling and misalignment. Burton has exited and has not submitted his rating. WOW.
MotorCityMegs @MotorCityMegs8 60/71
They're saying they should leave him out.
Discussing that they should not act without allowing Burton to rate the candidates.
MotorCityMegs @MotorCityMegs8 61/71
DRAMA!
What a goofy day!
MotorCityMegs @MotorCityMegs8 62/71
Motion to reschedule the two candidates for next week.
Use the ratings from those who interview all 5 candidates.
Ratings don't have to be turned in today.
MotorCityMegs @MotorCityMegs8 63/71
Motion carried.
No Announcements.
New business: YES! They saw my tweet. LOL. They're sharing the feedback I gave. 🤣
MotorCityMegs @MotorCityMegs8 64/71
New business: Woods is saying that regarding March 2nd---those legal monitors were treated unfairly. Wants to say that publicly. BOPC will continue to dig into the situation.
Bernard: BOPC has sent official letter responding to request that the 5 tickets be dismissed.
MotorCityMegs @MotorCityMegs8 65/71
