Committee of the Whole
Minneapolis City CouncilRemote
- Received a presentation on a potential use for the former Third Precinct at 3000 Minnehaha which was burned during unrest in 2020. Staff recommended a democracy center with some space (8000 sq ft) for community use for the site. Election & Voter Services (EVS) would relocate to this more central location in the city under this plan, consolidating operations.
- Rejected a resolution for a fully community operated use at 3000 Minnehaha. Proponents described the option as part of racial healing efforts and would be similar to what is proposed for the 8000 square foot community center, but for the whole property. Defeated by a vote of 6-7.
- Adopted a resolution opposing a warehouse use at the 3000 Minnehaha location and supporting giving community use of that space.
- Unanimously approved a legislative directive for a report on the standard process for any housing service provider to request funding for critical repairs and the funding sources available.
