Hennepin County Board of Commissioners625 4th Ave S Minneapolis, MN 55415 (Directions)
625 Building Auditorium
The Hennepin County Board:
- Approved contracts for accessibility improvements along various county roads and a cooperative purchasing agreement with Hennepin Healthcare Systems to achieve cost savings
- Approved a resolution supporting People Serving People’s request for state funding for capital space improvements, emphasizing the organization’s role in providing shelter for families experiencing homelessness. PSP is the largest family shelter in Minnesota. The current contract is worth $30 million, with this year’s spend at $7 million.
- Commissioners debated the merits of deviating from the usual process to support PSP, noting their broad reach and the aging infrastructure of their facilities. Concerns were raised about maintaining fairness to other deserving nonprofits.
- Despite the concerns, the motion to support PSP passed with 6 in favor and 1 opposed (Lunde).
