Review of last meetings minutes are approved. Meeting is flying through the very short agenda.
Financial Director report says they received 1st payment from the state of Michigan in March.
DWCPA says Detroit will pick up the bill for nearly $250,000 of 2023 budget.
$1,372,000 was approved for Fiscal year 2022/23 budget for the DWCPA.
The Grand Prix is adding revenue to DWCPA due to daytime rentals of the space during the race weekend.
Board says they are spending more money on security. Says that spending increase is not due to recent shootings downtown.
The state is supposed to cover half of the DWCPA budget according to state statute but board members claim that particular revenue relationship is not always consistent.
Biggest task is the "decarbonization plan" of DWCPA says Executive Director Mark Schrupp.
The financial impact of the "decarbonization plan" of DWCPA would save the port authority money says Schrupp.
Schrupp says there will be solar panels installed on the roof of 130 Atwater office.
Today is the census revenue conference in Lansing. The report to the DWCPA says that there will be an increase in funding based on new developments in Lansing.
State senator Erika Geiss is a major supporter of DWCPA according to the legislative report to the board.
Many lawmakers from across the state of Michigan come to the Port Authority for events and comment on their approval of the site and its amenities. The board is very proud of that fact.
Executive Director Mark Schrupp is heavily invested in the Port Authority contributing to the economic ascendancy of Detroit and the region of Southeast Michigan according to his statements.
Board member Bryan C. Barnhill says that the tension between the US and China has made the global economy more regional and ports like Detroit-Windsor will bear the brunt of this economic shift.
Executive Director Schrupp says building bonds with Canada could have an impact on future economic activity in the region.
The DWCPA anticipates 5 cruise ships to be docked at their Port during the month of May.
There will be a shuttle boat from Sinbads to the Port Authority during the weekend of the #DetroitGrandPrix according to DWCPA report.
International travelers are traversing through Detroit port's regularly according to Schrupp. Says if Detroit was an origination location for some of these global cruises it would increase revenue for Detroit.
Board approved $50,000 for change order for new construction project. Schrupp says they need a more robust bid list for construction work done on port in the future.
Shcrupp seems genuinely concerned for the environmental integrity of the Detroit Port and region as a whole. Wants to get rid of diesel emissions to help with carbon emissions.
Board Chair Jonathan Kinloch is also very vocal about concern for the community and the environment based on his comments. The board is developing community relationship counsel.
